Sanford and Lake Mary are sister cities located in Seminole County. Due to its highly rated school system, numerous healthcare access facilities, international airport, and proximity to major interstates, Seminole County is one of the most sought-after locations in Central Florida.
Lake Mary, a bedroom community, is often featured as one of the best places to live in Florida. Locals enjoy the many shops and eateries, as well as its ease of access to Interstate 4.
The City of Sanford, a port city, was founded in 1870 (incorporated in 1877) by Henry Sanford. Sanford is located on the south shore of Lake Monroe and was dubbed the Gateway City because the founder believed it would become the transportation hub for the area. Throughout the years, Sanford adapted to support numerous industries (citrus, celery, rail, military, etc.), which supported its citizens and contributed to its continued growth. Today, Lake Monroe continues to be a feature of the Sanford area, where many meet to walk, bike, skate, or bike along the beautiful riverwalk or enjoy dining and activities (i.e., food trucks, farmer’s markets, etc.) in the adjoining downtown area.
The Sanford International Airport hosts an annual Air Show featuring historical and modern aircraft. Crowds gather to watch the aeronautical feats of these advanced aircraft. The showstoppers are the Airforce Thunderbirds, who are not only spectacular performers, but absolutely gorgeously draped in red, white, and blue.
